Coban wrap by 3M is an extremely versatile addition to any first-aid kit. As an EMT and Lifeguard I have personally used Coban on everything from blisters on toes to large lacerations and avulsions. Coban’s versatility simplifies your aid kit and saves space by replacing many other first aid supplies. Before application, Coban is easily cut or ripped to size depending on need. It is available direct from 3M or many online retailers and comes in a variety of widths, colors, sterile, non-sterile and latex free versions.
Coban’s greatest asset may be that it only adheres to itself- even when wet.
Coban’s greatest asset may be that it only adheres to itself- even when wet. It can be used on any part of the body and even on injured animals without pulling out hair, fur or skin upon removal.
For wound applications It has enough stretch to work well on joints of the body but can still be made tight enough for use as a pressure bandage. Once you have had it for awhile you will see that it’s almost like duct tape. You will find new uses for it all over the place such as a field expedient to bind gear without leaving residue, wrapping handles on tools or even as a rubber band.
Most importantly, when using any medical kit it is essential that it is used properly. Completing a first responder, wilderness first aid or EMT class will give you the skills necessary to take care of yourself and those around you.
